National search and rescue event set for Calgary, Oct. 13-16, 2004

Ottawa, Ontario – Search and rescue experts from across Canada and around the world will converge in Calgary, Alberta from October 13 to 16, 2004 for SARSCENE 2004, Canada’s largest search and rescue event.

Organized by the National Search and Rescue Secretariat (NSS), SARSCENE 2004 will attract more than 600 delegates from Canada, the US and beyond. The four-day event includes training courses, meetings, games, demonstrations and exhibits and about 70 presentations. The event closes with the presentation of the 2004 Outstanding Search and Rescue Achievement Award and Certificates of Merit. The Lead Minister for Search and Rescue, The Hon. David Pratt, has been invited to present the awards.

SARSCENE 2004 is an opportunity to obtain background information and interviews on all aspects of search and rescue, including:

  • Innovative search and rescue projects
  • Recent multi-jurisdictional exercises
  • The role of volunteers
  • New techniques and technologies
  • The latest equipment and gear
  • Marine, air and ground cooperation
