SARSCENE 2004, Calgary, Alberta October 13-16

SARSCENE opened with a plenary session on "Volunteer SAR: Dedication, Challenge and the Way Ahead" with presentations by:

  • Monica Ahlstrom of the Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada,
  • John Davidson of the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association,
  • Brad Marshall of the Search and Rescue Association of Alberta,
  • Jean Murray of the National Search and Rescue Secretariat and
  • Robert Petitpas of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.

There were five simultaneous sessions throughout the rest of the two and a half days. Speakers represented all areas of search and rescue: air, marine and ground SAR across Canada and around the world. The focus was on multi-agency partnerships to help create a seamless search and rescue system and on the most efficient use of SAR resources and skill to save lives.
