Plenary Session:
“Satellite technology and its role in SAR”
By
2005, over 17,000 lives were saved by distress signals relayed to the
international
COSPAS-SARSAT
system.
This vital component of search and rescue is undergoing changes that
will affect both SAR providers and SAR users. A panel of experts will
look at:
- Upcoming changes in distress alerting
- Misuse of beacons and false alerts
- What happens when a signal is detected
- How the Canadian Beacon Registry is a lifeline to SAR
- Emerging satellite technology and its impact on SAR
We will
also take this occasion to welcome the International COSPAS-SARSAT
Secretariat to Canada.
